Students will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel including centering, coning, and opening to create bowls and plates as well as how to trim and under glaze their pieces before the final firing.

Jess will help you find your artistic voice as we tackle various exercises and weekly drawing projects.

Japanese Textile Dyeing Workshop w/ Kiyomi Yatsuhashi
This workshop is an introduction to the Japanese traditional craft of shibori using indigo dye. You’ll learn basic resist techniques such as binding, folding, wrapping, clamping etc. and experiment creating various patterns and designs. Take home indigo dyed fabric that can be used for a quilt, wall hanging, scarves and/ or napkins. All materials are included in this special workshop limited to just 8 students.
Japanese Textile Dyeing Level 2 w/ Kiyomi Yatsuhashi
Through the practice of shibori dyeing, we are finding the possibilities are endless! In this series of classes, we’ll continue to explore the vast array of Japanese shibori resist techniques and experiment more with overdyeing with indigo dye. Students will continue to create new patterns, building their vocabulary of marks and combinations of designs for their individual projects of art, quilts, wearables and/ or functional objects. This class builds on skills gained in previous classes and/or workshops.
